Opening day service drew many people as a beautiful building and grounds were rewarded to the people of Browns Point United Methodist Church, as seen in the picture to the left. Before this, the congregation proudly started from two lifelong methodists in the area. The story below is pulled together from various newspapers and write-ups kept dear to our heart.

IN THE FALL OF 1959, Ben Cheney asked Earl Mann once during their family get together, "Why is it we can't have a church here in our community that we can attend?"(1) Earl responded, "well because no one had bothered to start one."

At this time, there was a Catholic Church, Presbyterian Church, and Episcopalism Church. Both the Manns and the Cheneys having Methodist backgrounds, did not feel comfortable in the formal ritual of the Episcopal Church nor the fundamentalist philosophy of the Presbyterian Church at Dash Point.

(1) It began as the Brown's Point Community Church. It wanted to be non-denominational so it would be more inclusive to the people of the area.

The Church Held its first meetings in Jerry Meeker Jr. High School. The first public one was widely publicized and drew a turn out of approximately 175.

"That first eight months of the church's life was a most exciting time. There was a euphoria of enthusiasm and joy among the members of this new congregation who were most delighted with their new church and their many newfound friends."(1)

In 1959, the church wanted to move to a dedicated space. Building of the new church rolled into the three years as residents moved to a fixed up chicken house in the mean time. This church had no problems getting off its feet after that.

Half A Century Later

We've grown since then. We still have the same pride in our church and faith in our God, but there has been building additions, remodels and ground landscaping.
